My mother

Weightvest my mother

Mum struggled to keep her head up because she felt so bad to be so bent over. She walked more miles in her life than anyone I have known and was as strong as a horse but her bones let her down.

Walking in Alignment with the Weight Vest

Shame on me! I have been promising this video for ages. But I finally got it done. So click on the video and check out the easy way to get rid of slumping shoulders.

I’m curious as to why many people don’t click on the videos. They are really the best way to communicate some things. Words just don’t do it like a video. Are some of you afraid of youtube videos? They are really safe actually. Yes, there is a lot of grunge on youtube but you don’t have to hang out there. And most of the videos are limited to ten minutes.

Anyway I will try to tell you what the video shows you in case you have a problem with youtube.

There are two horizontal weights at the top of the vest in the back. No other vest has them. I put them there to make it easier for you to stop the slumping that we all do as we get older or as we work too long at a sitting desk. I’ll have a newsletter about my standing desk next I think. Since I built it I don’t spend as much time just cruising the net for new and interesting information.

So you slide your shoulderblades down your back in order to stand up straight. It is a subtle movement. Don’t thrust out your ribs, that’s hard on your lower back, don’t jerk your shoulders back, just feel as if your shoulder blades were melting down your back and feel the corresponding stretch in your heart area as you start becoming more erect.

I was reading a book on first impressions recently and it said that an open heart area is an immediate “Yes” when you meet someone. So standing and walking with your shoulder blades melting down your back is a good thing on all counts.

There is some information about walking on a treadmill also; stand up straight and try to get a good heel strike on the mat. It is the heel strike that gives the body the message to create bone. I personally think that is one of the biggest reasons why we have more Osteoporosis nowadays in younger women. In just the last 25 years there is a huge increase in sitting time and electronic gadget time.

You have to move if you want your bones and muscles to last your whole lifetime. Become a movement addict 🙂 Don’t think that the one hour a day of wearing your vest gets you off the hook for movement. Every chance you get move a little more than you did yesterday.

I’m going to get one of those apps to measure my steps when I get a minute to investigate it. I’d be interested in seeing how many steps I make especially since I just adopted a spaniel puppy. She is a runner! I used to think dance and aerial yoga was enough exercise but now I walk her twice a day as well.

Going out in the cold all bundled up would not have been my idea of fun before I got Dragon but I’m loving it now. Walking around early before most people are awake I feel like I’m getting a head start on the day.

So watch the video, get a dog, and MOVE as if your life depended on it!

I promise it won’t be so long until the next newsletter. Email and let me know if you have a topic you want me to cover.

Move in Joy,

Pam
